Depressing Thought Of The Day

The Penn State child abuse scandal is no more limited to one university than the Church abuse was limited to one parish.
I've been reading in comment sections people writing "Why, I would have given him a punch in the mouth!" but no one ever does. Someone has to suspect or know something; after all, it involves a lot of kids and goes on for years. Still, nothing.

Gotta wonder what's wrong with people.

  1. There is a problem with responding with violence to one who is accused of, well, just about any crime.

While the said suspect may deserve to get his rear handed to him, such actions are generally illegal unless there is need of self defense to protect against loss of life of limb.

TLDR: No matter how much they deserve it, if you hit the sad sack then it will be you getting the charge.

  2. Yes, you are right. The authorities are the best people to handle such situations.

I was contrasting those who declared that they would take action if they knew of such acts against the constant lacking response of those who actually witnessed (and still do) such acts.

I should have been more clear.

  3. In some places, the law actually protects thos who use violence to prevent certain crimes. In Alaska for example, self-defense provisions are extended to those using violence to prevent child abduction.

I'm fairly certain the same provision would be extended to cover those using violence to interfere in a rape.
